We are looking for an experienced Paralegal to add to our successful Private Family team. You must have experience of supporting Fee Earners in the efficient management of files and be well versed in Private Family matters and able to 'hit the ground running'.
Main duties include:
- Client contact by phone and in person to assist with queries, provide updates and take messages for Fee Earners
- Contact with third parties such as Barristers and expert witnesses to coordinate appointments and court dates and briefings to Counsel.
- Drafting and formatting of documents i.e. Divorce Applications, Financial Statements, Injunctions, Applications for Child Arrangements..
- Maintenance of electronic case management files.
- Preparing Trial Bundles including indexes.
- Assisting with the department's billing.
- Attending meetings with clients and hearings with senior Fee Earners / Counsel.
- Assist in standardising and preparing departmental precedent letters, documents and other templates.
- Assist in dealing with incoming post during Fee Earners' annual leave.
Preferred skills and experience
- At least 12-18 months' experience of working in a legal environment along with relevant departmental experience is required.
- Confident with MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Excellent English grammar and spelling; familiarity with legal terminology and excellent numerical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in dealing with a range of clients via telephone and face-to-face.
- Ability to organise and prioritise your workload to the required standard and within the required timescales.
We are looking for someone who is pro-active, flexible and willing to use their initiative within the guidelines set by the Fee Earners. A genuine interest in Private Family work is a must.
